SEOUL, South Korea - North Korea's defense minister said his country will strengthen its nuclear weapons program in response to U.N. sanctions and American hostility, the North's official news agency reported Wednesday.

North Korea will upgrade its arsenal "in every way by employing all possible means and methods" and will greet any aggressors with "all-out do-or-die resistance and unprecedented devastating strikes," Kim Il Chol said, according to the Korean Central News Agency.
Kim said such a move is necessary to counter the United States' "extremely hostile act and the irresponsibility of the U.N. Security Council."
Kim spoke at a gathering to mark the 53rd anniversary of the armistice agreement that ended the Korean War.
North Korea fired seven missiles in early July, including at least one believed capable of reaching the U.S. mainland. International condemnation prompted the Security Council to adopt a resolution sanctioning North Korea and banning member states from missile-related dealings with the communist country.
The defense minister warned that the U.N. resolution will not force Pyongyang to give up its nuclear program. North Korea "can survive without sweets, but not without bullets," he said.
Separately, a South Korean civic group said the North is readying its forces for conflict.
Artillery units have been armed and civilian forces, composed of laborers and farmers, have been outfitted with uniforms, the Seoul-based Good Friends group said in a statement Wednesday.
Drills are being held for both active duty and civilian forces, and civilians have been issued vehicles covered with camouflage netting, Good Friends said without citing sources for its information.
Previous reports by the South Korean group of activities in the isolated North later were confirmed. But a spokesman for South Korea's Unification Ministry dismissed the report.

This guy is the real lunatic we need to be worried about.

absolutely,

in essence, what we (the bush administration) have done, is tell the world

the more dangerous you can get, the least likely we will do anything to you.....

good strategy! now its a rat race to become that biggest baddest dictator of the world......

choosing "soft" military targets like Iraq to send a message has backfired beyond belief.... and im begging someone from the right to step to the plate and battle me on this one..... Iran and North Korea are now laughing in our faces......and we cant do anything about it.

I think he's being realistic. I think people need to understand that the red white and blue doesn't mean what it did. I think our flag instills fear and uncertainty as long as we continue on this path. We say "oh they are sooo dangerous and should be stopped" yet all we do is invade and occupy countries and aid and support Israel in yet another superfluous military conflict that has left yet another city in ruin. If you say that it's to fight terrorism, well you are simply not intelligent and should really just not post here. We need to start practicing what we preach. I don't blame him for doing everything in his power to defend his nation. Remember we are the only country to ever use a nuke and we did it twice. Save me the posts about WW2 and why it was needed. Regardless, we did it...twice. That's fact. My opinion will change when he attacks S. Korea first or shows me that he has goals that resemble...hmm...I don't know...ours?

If I were a superpower I'd be making damn certain I was ready to take on the US should they attack us.

We live in a great country but it's not exactly peaches and cream in the eyes of other nations, nor should it be. We have made our bed and we should lie in it. I may be playing Devil's Advocate...but I always try to put myself in the shoes of someone on the other side of the argument. We are the cowboys of the world and think we can dictate what countries do and how they should be ran. Anyone that has studied empires knows what's inevitable. Greed shall be our downfall.

N. Korea is being difficult and doesn't want to negotiate about ending its nuclear program. I personally think they like the attention, when they see the attention going away like it did the past 2 weeks because of Lebanon, they do something (like test missiles) or say something like today to get the attention back.

are you seriously backing a f'ing lunatic?!?!

I always refer to the U.S. as the "police of the world" lol..and as I agree that its a problem, lets get a GRIP here. Defend itself from us?!?! Why would a country feel the need to "defend itself" from us unless they are doing shady shit and NEED to be on the defensive. I dont see other countries building up their fucking nukes...just Iran and North Korea...and dont give me that bullshit about Iraq, you think North Korea just up and started their psycho nuke program after we invaded Iraq? Thats what you think? It takes 5-6 years to build a strong nuclear weapons inventory? WAKE UP ...these countries have been doing this for years. They just came OUT now...because they are fully stocked. Please with this bullshit..."they are still building"...they arent still building SHIT they are already THERE...as if those psychopaths would actually give us a heads up rotfl...do you always let your opponents know what cards you are holding?

Argue all you want...I agree, other countries should live as they please, going about their business...but get a damn grip on yourself when you say that their business should be to build their nuclear weapons program because they need to DEFEND themselves...do you even have any idea what goes on in these countries? Sure its not OUR business to go and "fix them", this I agree with and have a problem with - their own people should take control of their lives, but for you to say "I dont blame him"...wow...you have serious issues and are JUST as bad if not WORSE than those you condemn. The rest of THE WORLD is concerned about their nukes...not just us. Actually anyone with a brain is concerned.

Honestly, who the fuck cares if we are the all mighty superpower? You would rather see a world in which NORTH KOREA or IRAQ be that?!?! Does our government beat and rape its citizens? Is this a communist country? Are you EVER worried that at ANY given moment the government can come and seize all your shit leaving you with NOTHING?? We're capitalists...it might not be the best way but its NOT a dangerous and scary country to live in either...and when you ask someone in MOST countries what they think of this country they will say all we care about is big business and money...NOT nuclear weapons and instilling fear. Dont give me this shit, sure ask the Middle East and they will say the opposite, but they hate the way we LIVE, believe that...whats even MORE pathetic is that their people STILL fucking try to live here...and WHY IS THAT??? In the eyes of other nations?!?! What nations are those? Australia? Italy? Greece? Germany? Argentina? Spain? Japan? How about Africa?!?! Do they think we need to be put down?!?!? Who are you basing this opinion on? THE MIDDLE EAST???

You tell me which country has the MOST immigrants, which country is the MOST desirable for people from other nations to travel to, educate themselves freely, even have the fucking government PAY for that education and live in because of the opportunities it offers every SINGLE person to live a good life...it is STILL the Unites States right now and has always been., black, white, Asian or Muslim whatever the fuck you are...go try that in North Korea :booted

haha glad I got that out of you, Eleni. I expected such a retort, and that's fine. I know they've been building their nuclear program for years. I am certainly not "backing" this idiot, either. I'm just saying I understand him a little more than your average American. I don't have that blind patriotism that so many people have... That "go kill 'em" mentality. Violence and destruction is always fine as long as WE are doing it in the name of "freedom" and "democracy". It's bullshit, and regardless whether or not you or I like it....THE US IS SCARY to other nations. Oh, no we don't rape and torture our citizens, blah blah blah blah...but we do fleece them out of every penny they have whenever we have the chance. I simply can't defend America anymore. There are consequences to our actions...as we will continue to realize; especially as our stance on Israel persists.

Who annointed the US the "World Police"? That's a pretty scary thought for alot of people, especially those in other countries getting exploited with the capitalists do anything for a buck administration we have running our country now. A country doesn't have to be shady to want protection, ask yourself why do people have a gun in their house, it's not really that strange of a concept. And grouping Iran & North Korea together is a mistake because their two completely different situations, but they are both definitely both exploiting the Iraq situation and the fact that the US is stretched out to push the envelope. And I don't know what your talking about fully stacked, you might want to research that a little more, because Iran only has intentions as of the moment, neither country yet has weapons grade plutonium. Why does he have a problem because he feels the US is imperialistic? We are a big bully, what do you think the whole reasoning behind creating the UN was, so that the US could go in and invade countries at their will? I mean look at Iraq, where are the WMD's? A real big threat Saddam was right, suppressing all the shit going on there now, the capitalistic reasons for Iraq are pretty obvious now. Sure the rest of the world is concerned but thats why there are international policies and procedures, it's a good think there isn't oil in the Israel or we'd probably be invading them too.

So that last part your in favor of imperialism? Sure our government rapes and beats people, why do you think economic disparity is increasing in America, because an elitist group is conspiring to get everything, why do you think 10% of people owns 90% of everything. And government can freely take everything you have, and our certainly moving more and more in that direction with alot of their current actions and laws. And I hate to tell you but Anti-American Imperialism is just not in the Middle East, its world wide, Europe, Asia, South America everywhere. No one is saying that communism is better, but certainly the post NAFTA big business capitalism that's been running the country is exploiting people in third worlds as well as it's own citzens, especially the blue collar ones.

And sure most immigrants come here, that's because there is the most $$$$ here, so they have a better chance at getting it, and that's do to the fact of our genocide of the Indians and all that free land to go around, and the fact we were the only one with a post WW2 Industrial Infrastructure still in tact and had 25 really prosperous years. How many immigrants do you think will want to come here if there is no $$$ to be made? Empires fall thats a fact, the British, the Roman, The Ottoman etc........and it usually has to do with overspending, overextending military, aging infrastructure, and technological advancement of energy production. All problems we currently have. I don't know whatelse to say, but I wish I could live back in that US is so right bubble it was alot less aggrivating.

Ummm ok, reread what I wrote. I said I CALL THEM THE POLICE OF THE WORLD, and its a DEROGATORY STATEMENT as I explained. Nobody "annointed" them anything.

anti-american is something VERY different than being SCARED of us...give me a f'ing BREAK. You saying Anti-American Imperialsim, HE SAID SCARED OF US because we "invade everyone"...lets compare apples to apples...sure yeah South America is shitting a brick thinking how we will invade them and occupy Argentina...

this post sounds a tad too "conspiracy theory" to me. I dont deal well with that so this is my last response here. You can think what you like, and I can think what I like...thats the beauty of America, we can think for ourselves.

Yes, I do think most Americans are fucking stupid..sorry. They elected GWB TWICE. Sorry, I don't put a lot of stock in the intellect of the common man. Niether did the founding fathers when they created the electoral college. Anyway, when I say "Scared"...I mean of the US intentions..so yes, anti-imperialism shall suffice. Greeks and South Americans think we are pussies? Who, the average American or the country as a whole? Kim in S. Korea may be a complete madman...and I assure you I wouldn't want him at the helm of my nation...BUT...I understand a bit of where he's coming from..that's all. When the leader of the free world calls you part of "the axis of evil" on national TV, then invades one of those countries a few months later, you wouldn't think anything of it? You wouldn't maybe prepare yourself a bit?

Oh and you don't think that the US rapes people? Well...my asshole sure feels a little weird after filling up the 'ol Maxima. I gave the cop a pretty good description, though...I told him I saw an E, to XXs an O and an N.

I gave the cop a pretty good description, though...I told him I saw an E, to XXs an O and an N.

oh stop changing what you wrote now...here it is again...

ok so now I am responding where I said I wouldnt :keke
I think there is a difference...I know Greece has always been pretty "Anti-American" but scared? No way...seriously, they think we are pussies...but they dont particularly care for the way we do things round these parts lol...sure theres a difference.

and I am anything BUT far right, and sure, I have issues with certain things about this country...but hey, I would rather be HERE then THERE, because I do have a chance to get rich here, not there.

Again, getting rich has nothing to do with our poltics. Greeks think we're pussies? LMAO They may not be scared of invasion, because they have nothing that we want at the moment, but I'm sure alot of the leaders are scared of American Imperialism, a hundred years from now my relatives could go at the Bush Texan on the island of Myknosos and all the indigous people, that aren't climbing a picking olives, can make me a martini. Everyone should be afraid of imperialism even people in the US, absolute power corrupts absolutely, I don't even want to get into what it would lead too, there are enough sci-fi movies out there with possibilties.

It's not a case of dealing, it's a case of being responsible. We are part of a whole, there are other people in the world the US needs to account for that with their actions. The US needs to take into accord all people too and just not a select ruling group, ex. say you have a child with some form of handicap, what's going to happen to him after you die?

I see good points made on both sides. I dont think all the countries are affraid of us like they use to be, like I said before Iraq war did fuck shit up for us and they know that we wont be going into any war anytime soon. We should get our troops back home soon and concentrate on whats going on in home like Mike said, we have major issues in US meanwhile we spent over 400 billion in Iraq so far. We dont have $ to rebuilt New Orleans, fix our social security problem, but somehow we find $ to aid other countries. This cock sucker from Iraq yesterday asking us for Billions more. Its funny to see that people in Queens didn't have electricty for a week but in Iraq they did, how about a few billion to fix the freaking grid at home first.

I think countries are still just afraid, they're just taking advance of the fact that our military is over extended to run their mouth. It's like when another kid is getting the shit kicked out of him by a bully, you can call the guy giving the ass kicking a bully or take precautions to when that motherfucker tries to give you a beating. But I definitely agree with the rest, why the fuck is New Orleans still in shambles, how come much of the US still has 80 year old powerplants, fucking no power in Queens, St. Louis, California etc...............unfortunately the problem is that doing that doesn't put $$$ into our administration's pockets, though that would have probably made a huge Ken Lay-GWB profit. Hopefully we'll have a change in November.

I agree dimitry. We send billions of dollars in aid but cant take care of shit at home. And this is coming from what u guys call a "conservative" president.

And I completely do agree with eleni. The people of those countries are not afraid. But there leaders are scared to shit. Everyone of those greeks that u talk about in greece that say americans are pussy they are saying that so to stroke there egos, and to boost up there machizmo image. Trust me if the US would flex its muscle a bit towards greece all the greeks will say this is unfair injustice or inhumane.

Everyone talks the talk but when it comes time to walk the walk it becomes a diffrent story.

Trust me when i say they might say that they think were pussies but they are scared. Shit im scared we got too strong. You need a balance in everything in life.

And right now there is no balance.

Dont count on it. Alqeada will come out again in october and scare people into voting republican again. I just honestly hope its not rudy guiliani but McCain. Although Rudy is a hero id think his thug tactics that worked in cleaning up NY wont work all over the world. We need brains for gods sake.

exactly, we really don't even have balance in our own government, why the ABA is filing a sue, this country is vereing more towards a corporate dictatorship then a democracy. And I don't know who considers Bush a conservative, he's far far from that.

excellent points...I didnt think of it that way, but I agree with what youre saying in regards to them stroking their egos and the response if we flexed.

I absolutely think we should focus on our own country...thats the problem with these parties..Republicans focus way too much on the international agenda and ignore the domestic...Democrats ignore the international and focus only on the domestic...so damn extreme...can NOBODY balance? :wallbang
