I've been to a lot in the past 2 years, and I was wondering what are some other peoples favorite museums and what kind of art do people like (if any). My fav is moma in ny and since its free for me I love spending days in the museum of fine arts here in boston. I also like museums in london and in cambridge when I was there. I have this urge to go to paris cause most of the shit I find nice is from french artists (monet, gauguin, van gogh even tho he was dutch he worked in south and northwest of france) I know many fancy the italian artists but I love a lot of french antiques as well. The furniture from mid-late 1800s is so beautiful...I wanna rob it and have it in my room. I'm not big into the egyptian sculptures and all that stuff, but anyways anybody here goes to museums. :shuffle :geek

My favorites are the Met and the Cloisters. I love the Impressionist and the Rennaisance periods of art, and i love all the ancient egyptian artifacts and sculpture they have there as well...there such a variety of things to see, I never tire of the Met. I love the Cloisters b/c of the structure and the display of the art and gardens, it truly transcends you to another time in history. and all the docents are so well versed on the exhibits, it brings that much more to the experience.

I find some of the egyptian stuff interesting..I mean I find the whole mummification thing cool. The tombs that are here are sweet as well. Roman art like statues are boring to me. I never liked the greek art portion because its predominantly greek mythology and I never was into that. The only thing I like to see is the currency used during the different classical periods and different regions of the roman empire or under the rule Alexander alexander the great shit they used in macedonia etc etc. Museums are a great way to spend a sat afternoon especially in the winter. I was walkin around the contemperary american art part of the museum and I don't like what they have on display. I like the jewelery and shit they used to like serve food in, in the asian art area a lot. :agree

Its a great way to spend a day with your man. Even if he doesn't like art you both are learning about shit chances are you didn't even know about. The outside garden inside the museum is nice for a ciggy break.I'm lookin at some of this and am like "if I was on acid this picture would be kick ass" :agree.

I definitely have to bring myself up to speed on current art. I have never been much of a fan of modern schools of painting and sculpture. I enjoy the beauty and refinement of classical technique. With artists like Van Gogh and Monet, you see the development of their work and style as they go through different phases of their lives, Van Gogh with his mental instability, Monet and his eye sight. Most modern artists lack that depth of character and feeling in their work to me.

sugaRRR

i hit up about 4 museums in europe and id have to go with NIKOLA TESLA museum in Belgrade, YU (the only yugoslavian museum i went to and im definitely being biased bc its a science museum)
he is my idol.
developed the MRI, cell phone technology, AC electricity, etc. circa 1900

died broke. but classified genius.

our world would not be anywhere near advanced as it is today without his work.

they have these body size demos where electricity jumps and funnels through coils its a total trip to be that close to what appears and miniature lightning (it is)

this guy was nuts... he would hang out in storms and make the only man made lightning right out of instruments from his bare hands.
wild fucker.. im babbling... im def going next year.
i def need to hit up more places tho.. jess u jet setter! :tantrum

my ancestors were victims on the holocaust as well and my cousin went to poland for the holocaust museum and she said it was VERY powerful in there.
she broke down and bawled, it was that chilling.

I do have to say however, that walking through the actual concentration camps is more powerful than even the museums. Walking through the gas chambers and seeing the scratches in the walls and touching them is an insane experience.... I wont go into further detail here but really, its almost unreal. :disappoin
