Well lately I've had some health issues addressed to me by a M.D. I saw here in Miami and with that I've changed my diet (to sugar-free everything and low low carb). Ends up my diagnosis was wrong and because of my change in diet, I gained about 8lbs.

So I called my trusty and loving doctor in New York and she shared some things with me. She told me to read a book called Toxic Relief by Dr. Don Colbert and this book is amazing! You'd be surprised how many things we think are good for us, but aren't.

Making a long story and decision short, wheat products are actually not good for your body. I've switched to rye, spelt and (brown) rice pasta, bread and cereal, products, which can only be bought at organic stores, minus the rye. I immediately felt the difference in my body and in my weight/bloat. Everyone should def' check this book out, it's a lot of knowledge that'll def' help you out.

I also stopped eating "cow" products (cheese, yogurt, milk, red meat) entirely.

It really feels good to know you don't need these things to survive on a daily basis, they just taste good and you can use them as your once in a blue treat. You actually feel better physically with a more simple diet. :)

wheat is not BAD for you. it might not be as good as those other sources, but I wouldnt lump it in with cigarettes and black tar heroin just yet.

Hey girl... :)

Miami is cool, nothing like my NY, but cool. Now that Ricky is here everything pretty much falls into place, perfectly. He misses home & you guys, who wouldn't miss it? We'll be back basically! Soon I hope! How are you? Hope all is well mama! :heart

Oh and I basically eat veggies, fruits, lean meats, egg whites, carbs from rye or spelt and soy or almond milk. Yea! :shuffle
__________________________________________________ ______________

And to the rest of you, sorry for the bad choice of wording (e.g., wheat is bad)... It's not bad, but the book doesn't recommend it; says the healthiest break down of carbohydrates are those I listed before/above. All in all, it's just to recommend the book. It really is pretty great!

I'm going to look into this book.. I've slacked off big time @the gym (going back today after being terribly sporadic for the past two months)... but other than that, I have succumbed to the notion that I absolutely need a change in my diet. I am even thinking of looking into an appetite suppressant like Hoodia or something, b/c I am one of those people that is hungry ALL the time and lack discipline when it comes to controlling my urges - especially for chocolate and such cravings. It would be a great place to start to know what I'm eating wrong, as opposed to counting calories or trying to eliminate carbs from my diet completely, something I know I'm incapable of doing. Sometimes it just helps to make some minor changes - it can go a long way. I am surprised u were able to totally take red meat out of your diet, that is very hard to do. What sources are u depending on for protein if u don't mind my asking?

Protein is very easy to incorporate aside from red meat. I eat fish, chicken, egg whites and whey protein shakes, they always keep me satisfied and it's quick.

It was hard, but the truth is that after you go absent from these things (your body actually doesn't need to survive) and you eat them again just once, you will realize how much better it is to not eat them at all. I went cow product free for two weeks or so and when I had cheese I wanted to die from the stomach/gastro intestinal pain.

All it takes is will power, patience and time and your body will get used to it. The body can get accustomed to everything it endures.

Buy the book, you won't regret it! It'll help you understand a lot. :)

Btw, it's also a book on detoxification through juice & veggie fasts. So interesting & good for your body/weight!

I will definitely get the book, and I'm really interested in the whole detox thing, my mom is very into it too. I know there are a lot of liquid diets that people do for one to three days to flush all the toxins, etc out of their system. I am looking into doing something like this soon. I totally see what you're saying about your body getting accustomed to things, I'm not sure I could completely stop eating red meat, I think a nice bloody steak is good once in a while, lol.. but I do know I eat entirely way too much of it, and I'd like to get into the routine of substituting it with healthier protein options. I also don't like the idea of a "diet" being strictly limited to salads, which is kinda the trap I see myself falling into and I know I won't survive on that long. Thanks for all the good tips:heythere

Your so welcom and goodluck!

Btw, I hate the whole salad and no carb' thing too. Carbs can be enjoyed lightly and there are tons more veggie and fiber substitutions for lettuce. But here we are learning & that's good! :)

It's okay!

I had one of those baby snickers & 1/2 of a slice of pizza which made me sick. :disgusted

Sometimes it happens. You shouldnt think of it so much as a diet, than you'll feel really guilty everytime you eat something out of your new nutrition context. :)
