My bf and i went to a thai restaurant this week and one of our waiters scolded us for drinking so much water while eating (even though the food was so spicey...we couldnt help ourselves :keke)

He said that drinking water while you eat does not let the enzymes in your stomach break down the food...

i had hear something similar to that...

however, i drink a loottt of water while i eat...i just cant help it :shuffle
what are the ramifications of this? what about this enzyme nonsense? is it really bad?

the waiter's statement sounds ridiculous, i dont see how water can be an inhibitor of any enzyme, i'll check this out.

but on the other hand if i drink as i eat i cant eat much at all because i get full in amount of minutes. this probly aint good also because u stretch ur stomach too. I would think it would be beter to drink a glass before u eat just so that ur intake of food would be smaller or perhaps waiting 20 min after u eat and then drinking.

if anything, the water will help digestion. it will dilute anything in your stomach and make it easier for the stomach to break down. that waiter is an idiot.

i drink water to help me feel more fuller. im a hard one to fill so i drink plenty of water to stop me from over eating

he said that the water dilutes these enzymes that help in breaking down the food and assuring you get the proper vitamins from them :shrugger

i had read this in passing once before too

My parents (super health/nutrition freaks) always told us that we shouldn't drink anything when we eat because of some reason I can't really remember (in one ear out the other :shuffle), may have been something like you heard. But I just can't imagine eating w/o a drink (almost always water).

Drinking more than 2 cups of any liquid with food will inhibit digestion and bloat your stomach. Your food will just sit sloshing in a gallon of water.
