Ive only been to ROME, had an unbelievable time... my hotel was two blocks from the coliseum. It was a hostel actually, I was on a budget, backpacking Europe.... It wasnt bad at all, but if you are looking for a few more stars then it may not be the best spot for you

I did the hostel backpacking thing too. I went to Rome, Florence, Venice & Milan(Palermo & Agrigento on a seperate trip)..............Old Rome has old buildings, the Vatican(Sistine Chapel), Colisieum(sp) and you can pretty much goto any piazza and find a bar crawl which are great. Venice is nice when u first see it, but during the summer it smells, I didn't like Milan at all........and Florence is one of the most gorgeous placest on earth, not only does it have history, great architecture, the markets and the shopping are amazing, it has a decent nightlife, and it has the most amazing food in the world, definitely the most see............I've heard the Amalfi Coast & Sardinia are gorgeous too but I can't speak from experience.

We were supposed to go this year but health issues came up :upset

Definitely next year though.. our itinerary is something like flying into Rome, staying a few days, heading to Bascilicata where my BF has a house, stayin there a week or so, and then doing the Amalfi Coast or Sicily for a few days. Can't wait :yipee

i totally agree. i LOVED florence when i went. rome was definatley my favorite city (for history/religious reasons) but florence was up there also. try to take a boatride out to capri. the island is so amazingly beautiful. im hoping to go back to italy by the end of this year. theres so much i wanna see and do again. i went to 9 cities in 7 days back in 1996 and that definatley wasnt enough time.. and im dying to go back for at least 3 weeks.. hopefully longer

The first 3 are Old Rome(the city at night, the colisuem), the other 3 are Florence(the amazing food market was 2 levels, Bobboli Gardens, Domo something). The last is my little brother passed out drunk in the Florence train station the day Italy lost to South Korea in the World Cup, I never heard a place go from so loud when they were up 1-0 to quiet when they lost 2-1 in the final minutes, there were literally people crying in the bar.

The food in Florence is amazing bring your appetite.

lol yes. and smoking cigarettes with our bodies half outside the window trying to not get the smoke in the room, haha. i have SOOO MANY PICTURES. i recently read the journal that i wrote throughout the entire trip. i started to crack up when i saw the pictures of us the night we all chilled with those italian guys. one of them wrote his address on a napkin, and told me to write him. i stapled the napkin to 1 of my journal pages. i totally forgot about that haha

If you are in florence and want a moderately priced hotel---i recommend the Hotel Botticelli. It is a block from el mercado centrale and a 5 minute walk from el duomo. It is a 3-star...but i am telling u it was so cute and the location was perfect...we loved it :agree

http://www.florenceby.com/botticelli/index.html

In rome...stay at the Excelsior---it is amazing :spitfall
This one is a bit pricier but till this day i have never slept in a more comfortable bed lol it is also in a great location--a few blocks from the Spanish steps and the trevi fountain

those are the only ones i can remember right now... :shuffle

Venice was my favorite.....my hotel room faced the grand canal and at night gondolas would go by.....just the whole city and way of life is amazing there

Rome is nice...I was in awe of all the ruins and the Colloseum, Vatican...the city though is too industrial for me

Florence is beautiful..if your a shopper its right up your alley

Padua....St. Anthony's Basilica was beautiful

Pisa....you see something that you always saw in movies and pictures and then its right in front of you

Siena....the main square where they have the horse race that dates back hundreds of years was amazing....so was St. Catherines church

the food in Italy is okay....were not use to it thats why

the ice cream is delicious

and ALWAYS watch out for gypsies...epecially in Florence and near the Colloseum...pick pockets like crazy that go right after tourists

yah, if you stay in Rome stay by the Spanish Steps, alot of Rome is ghetto but it's really nice over there & good shopping.

you must be either A-insane or B-eating at shitty restaurants...which is virtually impossible there

The food in tuscany is some of the best food ive ever had in my entire life.
