Any tips/clubs for Rio de Janeiro?

Will be flying out next thurs with a couple of guys. If there are any big clubs that we should definitely be checking out, then please let me know :)

Hey guys. I actually just got back. Was there from the 9th to the 21st...

We had a fantastic time. We rented out a 3br apartment at the end of copa for easy access to Ipanema.

Crime was not an issue. Never felt like I was unsafe at any time...even at night Granted if I walked around flashing stuff something might have happened but we were smart about that. I think it's mostly exaggerated. I did hear from the locals that Sao Paolo has more of a crime issue.

There were really no nightclubs...well ones in comparison to say here or other cities. Most were really the size of lounges. Nuth was the best of the bunch it seemed. Melt was nice but too small of a place. Never made it to 00 but heard it would have been worth it.

Fish Bone and Marios were the two best restaurants we ate at during the trip. Fish Bone is in Buzios, a small beach town outside of Rio. Highly recommended for a overnight trip.

Did you go to Baronetti? Can you comment on it? Eh. and I have some older friends who went to Rio last year, apparently they spent a few nights on a joint called "Help" :)

I didn't actually go to Baronetti. We thought about it but never did.

As for Help, hah all the cab drivers kept asking if wanted to go there. We did go the second night we were there as we were only blocks away from it (on the same strip). I didn't know what to expect but I felt like I was in some bizzaro world. We didn't stay for long and never went again. We regret not going to some rave that was going on that night. Oh well

Most parts really aren't as dangerous as you'd think as long as you're smart, I was down there by myself, don't speak any portguese or spanish and I was fine. I thought alot of the spots in Coppacabana where my hotel was and Ipanema were ok, Barbelle was pretty good, and some underground spot right next to it, where I really had a great time was Lapa which is a section sort of down town of just bar after bar open cafe style, big party lights, speakers, bands, everything it was awesome. I got so banged up, I would definitely cab it over there because the subway was not safe at all.

And if it's whores your looking for, you don't have to look hard, not only will they approach you on the beach, but there are guys all along Atlantic Avenue recruiting, and in alot of the clubs the girls flock to foreigners. I didn't experience it myself, but two of the guys I meet down there basically told me one of the whore houses, the chicks were dirty, quick and rushed so..........

The party at the Sheration Rio was fat too, place had it's own private beach is South of Ipanema and beautiful :)

I would definitely go back to Rio, I had a great time, I can't image how crazy it would be with some of my good friends.

How long is the flight to Rio from JFK?>

I flew from Newark, but I think with an hour stopover in San Paolo, my flight lifted off at 10pm, and I got in Rio at like 11am. God I can't wait to go back, so beautiful there.
