well if you are from a major city it is... pick pocketers the fuckin gypsies are legit. they will throw you their child and get your wallet at the same time.
i would say it is a better idea to stay there then by spanish steps.
one thing.... STAY AWAY FROM THE LATE NIGHT ETHIOPIAN RESTAURANTS

trastavere is great. there is so much to do there. the only negative thing is it is there r soo many tourists. i would definately recomens staying there.
thats area has the piazza of santa maria which is is so nice. they set it up that u can just walk or hang out in the whole piaazza and they have magicians, artists, juglers, psychics, entertainers all jutst out htere in this little square surrounded by restaurants / cafes/ bars

if you want to be able to maintain your health while you are there.... DO NOT EAT AT ANY ETHIOPIAN RESTAURANTS. African Food is unbelievably disgusting. i think i might have had the worst stomach ache of my entire life when i was in rome, got in late and decided to eat at an Ethiopian restaurant. BAD CHOICE!!!!

wow, i been hearing that italians are not really friendly as in they like to stick to their own little group and go out/ party like that
by the way, we ened up getting a hotel by the spanish steps cuz we were still scared to risk it, looking at pics area reminded us of the area w all the nightclubs in athens and that was one scary area ... so even though being there in person is one thing and seeing pics is an other, we still were too scared to stay in that area lol im sure i'll laugh about it later :shuffle but everywehre i read about italy and esp rome and area around naples all im hearing is all the crime there... mostly robbery but still

The only part of Italian I was in that I didnt feel safe was Milan, it reminded me of housing projects. Old Rome itself seemed very safe, maybe you have to be a little more cautious because your a female, but you should be fine. One interesting thing to remember, the Vatican City is the no.1 spot for pick pockets in the world, so be sure to keep your valueables safe.

I did a crazy bar crawl in Rome also.....
my boy that came with me got a little too drunk the night before so he stayed in sick in bed.... I went by myself to the campo dei fiori plaza and met up with a group of like 15-20 people for a bar crawl (met up next to the Bruno statue - dont ask me how i even remember this, lol)
the night went on and on..... from one bar to the next to the next .... then I went with some of the very cool people i met there to a club and then another.... before I knew it, I was hammered and its was past 6am.... had to get back to my hostel (which at that point i had NO clue how to get to), wake my friend up, pack and head to the airport to catch a flight to Athens which was leaving at 730am.... as i rushed out of the club, a young guy propbably morrocon or algerian came up to me and put his arm around my shoulder asking me if I had a good time, me being drunk and clueless just thought he was a nice guy, until the two dutch girls i was with (met at the bar crawl) was like I should watch my stuff.... then i looked and this guy had his hand in my back pocket and my camera (with all our pics from all of europe) was half way out...... i didnt feel a thing! these guys are definitely professionals!
not a violent person, but i knocked the guy in his face and after a bit of yelling back and forth the guy left (probably to get his friends and maybe a knife, i wasnt waiting to find out) .... jumped in a cab, kissed my dutch girls goodbye and somehow made it to my hotel and to the airport with seconds left on the clock......
ahhhhh, just another bar crawl story in Rome...... lol

I didnt say anything about Rome except it's got alot of pickpockets. It's Milan that looked like Queensbridge, the hostel I stayed in was ghetto too.
And Campo Di Fiore is the exact plaza I started my bar crawl in too, great times.

I remember going around on a bar crawl to a bunch of bars in Northern Italy, I went skiing up there in Bormio so they have bars set up all over the mountain. Add the fact that I was sixteen and had no idea what my limitations were, the altitude of the mountains there too. Let's just say that it was the longest ski run of my life. I think I ended up walking down half the mountain and that's about 4 times larger than the tallest mountain on the east coast. I wish I could remember more of that day, LOL.

Those were the good old days. I use to ski all the time, I went to a prep school in Mass and I used to ski everyday in the winter and I went to Europe a couple of times to go skiing (France and Italy). When I was thirty I was dating this young girl that wanted to go skiing but I hadn't skied in a really long time (since high school), but I figured it was like riding a bike. I still had all my equipment so I went to the ski shop to buy just a few things and I was looking at the skis. I was like wtf is this, why are the skis fat at the top and the bottom and skinny in the middle. Then I was thinking how old I was and how I can't show up with the shit that I have so I rented some equipment. That was the first time in my life that I really felt my age.
I ended up not really having a problem skiing but I never really realized what shape I was in when I was younger. Two trips down the mountain and I was exhausted. I guess I should take up golf or, maybe I should get in shape, LOL.
