I was talking about this and someone said all the cable companies offer phone service. Comcast has a phone package for example.
They are in alot of lawsuits also.
Phone business is tough these days.

They will be gone by the end of 2008.
This is what they will have to compete against:

Also, there is a company that developed a system where you plug in an answering phone type machine into your internet modem and you get calls anywhere for free. All you do is buy the device.

i honestly don't think so. There Shares soared 50% after the company settled its patent dispute with verizon. its stock price soared between Thursday and today, almost doubled in price.
How do you guys come up with these conclusions ?

lets put it in this perspective, dollars and cents.
You have a company that just doubled its share value in the last week and your predicting it will fall because you dont think its popular enough. Thank god i didnt listen to this type of reasoning when google first came out. At the time everyone says its just not gonna be able to compete with yahoo.
Follow the money people this company is just fine.

they just shelled out multi-millions for settlements with verizon and sprint, they bounced back after the vz settlement, but there is still an att case pending
i really dont see vonage having any competitive edge anymore in the telecom market with the amount of free voice services and landlines getting cheaper..
who knows, well see.. i still think they will be absorbed in the long run

I agree... and I don't trust the market these days, esp. with shit like this.. great they settled a lawsuit, perfect time for wall st. to pump the stock and not even look at the rest of the numbers. I'm with you though on all these other companies having the edge. Almost all of them offer internet based phone service which will come on the same bill as their cable.. it's convenient. people like convenience.

I am not so sure I would be comfortable with Time Warner providing my phones service. The internet goes out all the time, and there are constant issues. Death to time Warner

better yes, all services are better.... vonage is terrible just cheap... my friend worked for vonage in customer service.... he was busy all day with customers complaining about the service, he was instructed to not let them cancel, he was told to give them 6 free months....
