View Full Version : You can fool americans: Obama's Faith
You can fool them pretty good.
Apparently 12% of voters polled still think he's Muslim, despite the widely publicized Wright business, then a quarter of voters polled think he was raised in a Muslim home. Brilliant, once again.
Even with all the information repeatedly published, verified, documented, re-run over and over, you have a hefty % of idiots who remain ignorant about BASIC provable facts in someone's life. Very comforting.
He is now a Christian, having been baptized in the early 1990s at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. But rumors about Obama's religion persist. In the new NEWSWEEK Poll (http://www.newsweek.com/id/145737), 12 percent of voters incorrectly believe he's Muslim; more than a quarter believe he was raised in a Muslim home.

lol go to the middle of this country .....its not to hard to fool them with anything
How is anyone supposed to engage in, and follow, a substantive discussion on very complex topics if they can't even grasp the documented facts about someone's background and life?
You mean to tell me these people who think he's a muslim in disguise- oo scary- are perceptive and informed enough to follow the debates that need to be held in this country? Please. He has dark skin, his name's barack HUSSEIN, he lived abroad, and had a father who convered from Islam to Athiesm so, it must mean, HE'S MUSLIM!
The power of irrational fear and willful ignorance.

Wow that is truly SAD
It's like, what do you have to do with these people? His CHRISTIAN PASTOR was lambasted all over national television, to obama's detriment, and you still think he's muslim?
it's either paranoid, or stupidity, possibly both.
or maybe it's that photo he took in somalian dress, that you better believe none of these ass backwards people could grasp the difference between "terrorist turban" and somalian traditional garb. pathetic.

im not surprised esp since between 8 and 11 percent of Americans believed as of August 2002 that Elvis was still alive, 25 years after what was reported to be his death
This is the gene pool we are dealing with

Who was it that just commented in another thread about conspiracy theories and how they can't stand them?
I can't stand stupidity. These people either don't have televisions and can't read OR they think obama has crafted this entire charade of christianity in order to mask his true muslim self in a vast conspiracy to fool american voters.

I think these people just believe what they wanna believe. Ignorance is bliss...they are content with holding onto something that will serve to reinforce their hate. If they associate Muslims with negativity, it is in their best interests to believe that Obama is one. :yourcrazy

It reminds me of mccarthy lol
Just IMPLY, hint, even find a fragment of an association with something, and you're labeled for life, and no amount of factual evidence to the contrary can wipe it from peoples' minds.
Stupid fox news erroneously says he attended a radical muslim school in indonesia+ his middle name's hussein+his dark skin= A MUSLIM in the mind of every moron american, and there's no way you're changing it, b/c they're scared and don't really care to be told any differently.
They can't come right out and oppose him b/c he's black, but they can b/c he's muslim, so that's the route they're gonna go.

see the thing is jamez, there's some truth in what he's saying. there's no truth in obama being muslim.
there are parts of this country with distinct characteristics. some more religious, some more secular, some wealthier, some poorer, some blacker, latino, whiter, and i'd venture to say some areas where people are more well informed and educated, and areas that are more prejudiced. go ahead, pull up testing scores and performances around the nation and you tell me where the people are falling behind. cities, sure, rural areas? you betcha. thing is, cities tend to be more tolerant of diversity, rural areas? not so much. go ahead and poll which areas of the nation follow politics, keep informed, and stay up on the news. i guarantee you, it isn't west virginia by a longshot.
you're lying to yourself if you don't think you can follow trends of where people are most suspicious of a dark skinned man who they dont' believe to be christian.

That's not to say there aren't racist or religiously prejudiced people in the urban arena, or outside the midwest or south, of course there are. But generally, a smart person is presented with facts that are verifiable about a candidate, and they will accept them.

yes, there are def racist overtones in howard beach. but you'd definitely find more in the south as a whole than the north.
i didn't say rural is stupid, city is smarter, the city is full of failing schools too, but you can measure and calculate the areas of the country that do poorly. the areas that send kids to college, and ones that have their kids drop out of high school en masse. you can measure these things, saying that doing so makes you ignorant is silly.
what argument? i'm well aware obama did well in white populations. my argument is not about OBAMA, it's about there being nothing wrong with identifying certain portions of the nation and the beliefs/attributes/ and statistics that apply to them.
you called it ignorance, my argument is that it's not.

How do you know she was referring to where they lived and not what they are? Dumb.
Yes you are dumb, if you believe he's muslim at this point,d espite evidence produced to the contrary on a grand scale.
if you're so against prejudice jamez, why is it you tack the liberal label on somebody so freely? remember toonz, kid called you a douche and you determined from that he was a liberal.
isn't that judging falsely and prematurely?

no, because they are speaking about ONE PERSON, who has proven he is not what they believe him to be, yet they ignore the evidence and continue believing as they please.
you can 100% prove these peoples' judgment about obama is wrong, and they have, but they IGNORE definitive evidence.
if you provided me with IQ reports of every single person in the midwest and each and every one of them was certified above average intelligence, and i ignored that, and continued to call them stupid despite the facts, THEN i'd be as ignorant as these people who still think he's muslim.

Not possible for an entire section of the country to only be comprised of above average intelligence indviduals. Statistically not possible, so i'm not prejudging anything, I'm stating that would never be the case, same as how every single person on the East Coast isn't a genius. Can't happen.
My point to you was, in order to be as ignorant as these people, I would have to OUTRIGHT DEFY factual, provable, evidence before my very eyes. Whatever example you want to use, that's still what they're doing. So to be as bad, I'd have to see proof postive in front of me that something is XYZ and then flatly disbelieve it's XYZ.
get it?

And nobody said they are the ONLY independent thinkers, but they do tend to be a bit more critical, skeptical, and questioning than creationists and bible thumpers.
Granted both of them aren't the best quality overall person, but I'd rather somebody who is skeptical, questions, and is maybe a bit dismal than one who blindly follows b/c an ancient book gives him instructions for life.

Regardless of whether or not they were presented with evidence has nothing to do with calling them ignorant. An ignorant person believes what they are told or what they hear and doesn't bother to question or educate themselves about it. That's THEIR job - if they care enough they will take it upon themselves to find out who he is and what he's truly about.
Not to mention, u would have to be living under a rock to have not heard about the Rev Wright scandal...how does a Muslim guy have a Christian pastor?! That's just being totally idiotic!
ok can you show me proof the 12% who think barry is muslim was presented with evidence that he converted and does not practice his father religion ..please show me
he doesn't need to prove he converted, he never was muslim, nor was he baptized in any other faith which would require a conversion.
his father's religion is NO RELIGION he's an athiest converted from islam
his father was in his life for 2 years, i don't think that qualifies a religious influence that needs to be denounced
they have their proof, he's baptized christian, he's never been baptized anything else. he attended a christian church and his pastor and church were verified for all to see on tv, not to mention his presence at said church on sundays could easily be verified w/ other churchgoers. he got married in a christian church, baptized his kids there..
what other proof would any logical person need that he is indeed a christian as he says he is?

Barack Obama was educated in a radical Muslim school known as a "madrassa" are not accurate, according to CNN reporting.
Insight Magazine, which is owned by the same company as The Washington Times, reported on its Web site last week that associates of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-New York, had unearthed information the Illinois Democrat and likely presidential candidate attended a Muslim religious school known for teaching the most fundamentalist form of Islam.
Obama lived in Indonesia as a child, from 1967 to 1971, with his mother and stepfather and has acknowledged attending a Muslim school, but an aide said it was not a madrassa. (Watch video of Obama's school (javascript:cnnVideo('play','/video/world/2007/01/22/vause.obama.school.cnn','2007/02/05');) http://i.a.cnn.net/cnn/.element/img/1.5/main/icon_video.gif (javascript:cnnVideo('play','/video/world/2007/01/22/vause.obama.school.cnn','2007/02/05');))
Vause reported he saw boys and girls dressed in neat school uniforms playing outside the school, while teachers were dressed in Western-style clothes.
"I came here to Barack Obama's elementary school in Jakarta looking for what some are calling an Islamic madrassa ... like the ones that teach hate and violence in Pakistan and Afghanistan," Vause said on the "Situation Room" Monday. "I've been to those madrassas in Pakistan ... this school is nothing like that."
Vause also interviewed one of Obama's Basuki classmates, Bandug Winadijanto, who claims that not a lot has changed at the school since the two men were pupils. Insight reported that Obama's political opponents believed the school promoted Wahhabism, a fundamentalist form of Islam, "and are seeking to prove it."
"It's not (an) Islamic school. It's general," Winadijanto said. "There is a lot of Christians, Buddhists, also Confucian. ... So that's a mixed school."

I don't think fundamental radical muslims are int he habit of educating little buddhist kids in uniforms lol
And I want to emphasize how stupid it is to even bring up his father's faith or lack thereof. His father left when he was TWO YEARS OLD, what difference would it make what faith his dad was? you think a kid is picking up religious cues at 2???????

why jamez is talking out his ass:
1) i didnt claim all midwesterners were dumb
2) the implication when it was reported he attended a madrassa was that he attended a radical muslim school. he did not. his school consisted of MIXED FAITHS, and there was nothing radical about it.

I looked up madrassa and 5/6 definitions classified it as a radical school that teaches fundamental islam, the other the most timid of the definitions classified it as a MUSLIM school that often involves worship in a mosque and religious instruction.
i think it was made perfectly clear that he did not receive instruction in islam, did not worship in a mosque, was surrounded by people and children of various religious backgrounds, and there was no radical element to any of it.
so you're insisting he attended a madrassa on the SLIM loophole that it's defined as a "muslim school" not a radical muslim school?

No, it's not a rural problem, it's a dumb problem and those tend to multiply and continue, and of course they're present to some extent everywhere.
It's the mindset that completely alarms me, not the damage it may do to his candidacy.

JAKARTA, Indonesia (CNN) -- Allegations that Sen.
(Watch video of Obama's school )
Insight attributed the information in its article to an unnamed source, who said it was discovered by "researchers connected to Senator Clinton." A spokesman for Clinton, who is also weighing a White House bid, denied that the campaign was the source of the Obama claim.
He called the story "an obvious right-wing hit job."
Insight stood by its story in a response posted on its Web site Monday afternoon.
The Insight article was cited several times Friday on Fox News and was also referenced by the New York Post, The Glenn Beck program on CNN Headline News and a number of political blogs. (Watch how the Obama "gossip" spread )
School not a madrassa
But reporting by CNN in Jakarta, Indonesia and Washington, D.C., shows the allegations that Obama attended a madrassa to be false. CNN dispatched Senior International Correspondent John Vause to Jakarta to investigate.
He visited the Basuki school, which Obama attended from 1969 to 1971.
"This is a public school. We don't focus on religion," Hardi Priyono, deputy headmaster of the Basuki school, told Vause. "In our daily lives, we try to respect religion, but we don't give preferential treatment."
The Obama aide described Fox News' broadcasting of the Insight story "appallingly irresponsible."
Fox News executive Bill Shine told CNN "Reliable Sources" anchor Howard Kurtz that some of the network's hosts were simply expressing their opinions and repeatedly cited Insight as the source of the allegations.
Obama has noted in his two books, "Dreams From My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope," that he spent two years in a Muslim school and another two years in a Catholic school while living in Indonesia from age 6 to 10.

And I know this. Never said they are. But regardless he didn't attend a RELIGIOUS SCHOOL...FOOL.
Ok, so we've established the following:
Madrassas aren't all radical ( I did not know this, thank you everyone lol)
Obama's school, as quoted by the headmaster, is a public school, not a religious one
Public schools that are not religious do not qualify as madrassas
the end result is the same. Obama didn't attend a madrassa, jamez and his 12% buddies still think he did.

Wait, what? You just lumped narrow minded corporate drone workaholics in with heroin addicts? I dont' know about that.
Sheep are everyone, sheep are just people who are easily led, and don't think for themselves. Pretty hard to make it in business if you're one of these.
im making generalizations just like everyone else is.
im making generalizations just like everyone else is.

:LOL:LOL.. Obama himself said he went to a MUSLIM school ... A Madrassa can be public ..it can be inclusive .. it doesnt have to be radfical

In late 1970, Obama's family moved to another neighborhood, and Obama enrolled in Public Elementary School Menteng No. 1, the school depicted by several news outlets as an Islamic madrassa, or boarding school. The school, founded in 1934 as a Dutch school, once catered only to Dutch children and a few elite Indonesians. In 1962 the Dutch handed the school over to the Indonesian government. At the time, the predominantly Muslim public school was considered one of the best in Jakarta.
On a recent visit, a magician performed for the students. The girls wore uniforms of knee-length skirts and no head scarves. Boys and girls shoved each other on the playground. Weekly religious classes are required for all students, whether Muslims, Christians or Hindus, under the government curriculum. A new shiny mosque is in the corner of the courtyard.
"The Muslims learn about Islam, prayer and religious activity," said Hardi Priyono, the vice principal for curriculum. "And for the Christians, during the religious class, they also have a special room teaching Christianity. It's always been like that. We are a public school. We have always been a public school."
When Obama attended 4th grade in 1971, Muslim children spent two hours a week studying Islam, and Christian children spent those two hours learning about the Christian religion.
At holidays, the school made a practice of teaching students about different religions. Students from all religions celebrated Christmas with a Christmas tree and carols. They celebrated the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha by handing out a sacrificed goat to the neighborhood's needy.
Photographs from the time show teachers in sleeveless dresses. The only woman who wore a head scarf was the Islamic religion teacher.
"I was really trendy, for example, no sleeves, and miniskirts," recalled Tine Hahiyari, 78, a Protestant who was the school's headmaster from 1972 to 1989. "When I taught sports, I wore shorts."

newsflash . . . all of us attended a madrassa, unless any of you were home-schooled
madrassa -- literal translation "SCHOOL" . . . doesn't matter where the fuck it is . . . it just language translation
if i were a frenchie . . . i'd have attended "ecole" or "lycee" . . . if i spoke spanish, it would be called "escuela". if you speak ordu, or arabic, or farsi, it's pronounced madresseh or madrassa (as we translate their vocabulary phonetically since they operate on a completely different alphabet, but i'll bet some dumbasses here don't even know that much).
the current connotation of "madrassa" as it's tossed around our media outlets is just a bullshit fear-mongering term to refer to a school that is "over there", "in that part of the world", with "those (questionable) people" and anyone who has bought into that needs to go back to madrassa, or school, or l'ecole to get that dunce cap removed . . . sometimes i'm truly ashamed of just how ignorant my fellow Americans can be.

Yes - you're right but I say madrassa is a religious school bc in Islamic countries, if u call it a "madrassa" that tends to refer to a school where Islam is taught, and Arabic is taught, making it what we would consider a "religious" school.
Anyway the point is that when Fox reported on this story they were clearly trying to associate the school w/being some kind of radical/fundamentalist institution which breeds hate:
Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy pointed out that madrassas are “financed by Saudis” and “teach this Wahhabism which pretty much hates us,” then declared, “The big question is: was that on the curriculum back then?”

THIS is how they portrayed a "madrassa."
steve douchy has the IQ of my pitbull's morning turd. he doesn't do any research, he's just paid to read what he's handed or what pops up on the teleprompter.
there's no other word for school in arabic . . . it's "madrassa", actually its
مدرسة
try it . . . go to http://www.google.com/ig?hl=en&referrer=ign
go from english to arabic and see what pops up . . . if you can read their alphabet, its says "madrassa"
my point is that if you were living in say Dubai . . . and you went to a beautician school, it's called a "madrassa" or if you went to an American-run boarding school, run by Americans, teaching math, science, spelling, reading, it's called a "madrassa"

OK so then I guess I learned something as well. I only know a few words in Arabic, and they aren't very educational ones. lol
However I always thought madrassa had a religious connotation to it - isn't there another word for like school or university in Arabic?

I had many definitions that said that it was.
there is no evidence of any kind supporting obama being a muslim, how can you equate my error with their REFUSAL to acknowledge truth? they have been shown NO EVIDENCE he is, they are just suspect that he is. how is that the same? i'm not denying what's in front of my eyes, when i was told by darius it's just a school, i stood corrected.

How about the fact he enrolled to his "christian " school as a "muslim" ..why was that?
lol that was my point!! .. that it wasnt radical
and you also asked me what evidence was presented to people to show he was not muslim and was christian. that was a pretty stupid question, what were u driving at?
that these people that DEFY information shoved in their faces on the news daily were not given adequate sources to negate their ideas that he's muslim?
my ENTIRE POINT was that they had the correct information verified for them, and they deny facts. when I'm told by someone who speaks a language and is knowledgeable about it that the definition they're giving me is fact, i defer to them.
these people are stubborn and stupid. huge difference. of course, a detail again, that in your infinitely brilliant comparisons, you overlook.
on what basis?
I told you, the definitions I found specified it. I only saw one other that called it a "muslim school". I didn't see any or know of any, that referred to it merely as a school. Multiple definitions are indeed a basis to define a word. Someone familiar with it personally, and the culture, has a more nuanced knowledge. How would I have that available to me? It's like teaching an immigrant english and expecting them to know nuances of the language, they're using a dictionary, they're taking literal definitions. I dont have a finely tuned knowledge of arabic vocabulary.
How about the fact he enrolled to his "christian " school as a "muslim" ..why was that?

hmmm . . . interesting question. my personal impression is that it's quite difficult to learn to read/write . . . speaking might be easier (but still quite daunting) because there are a lot of methods out there that teach you conversational languages. given that i can speak farsi fluently, i can only pick out some words if people are talking arabic -- and then, to further complicate things, there are like a shit load of arabic dialects. the other thing about arabic is that it probably has the most extensive vocabulary. phrases, ideologies, concepts that would take us maybe a couple sentences to explain in detail might be equally, if not better defined in arabic with just 1 word.

He attended 2 madrassas in indonesia the four years he spent there .. 2 years at the predominatly muslim one ..and two years at the christian one ..when he enrolled into the christian one he was enrolled as a "muslim" .. meaning that was his religion .. like when we have to choose white, black, asian pacific etc when we went to school ...in indonesia they identify not by race but religion

I'm sure each and every one of them has seen Rev. Wright on the news and is aware obama belonged to, was baptized in, and attended a Christian church as a Christian.
There is their evidence, and it was presented to them courtesy of the mainstream media.
and no, I don't believe he ever said he converted. these are his words ont he topic:
<TABLE style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 5px; MARGIN-LEFT: 12px" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=300 align=right border=0><TBODY><TR><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: black 1px solid; BORDER-TOP: black 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: black 1px solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: black 1px solid">http://www.danielpipes.org/pics/new/large/479.jpg Barack Obama at the Smoky Row Coffee Shop in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>The candidate for president of the United States has delivered two principal statements in reply. His campaign website (http://www.barackobama.com/factcheck/2007/11/12/obama_is_a_committed_christian.php) carries a statement dated Nov. 12 with the headline, "Barack Obama Is Not and Has Never Been a Muslim," followed by: "Obama never prayed in a mosque. He has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian." Then, on Dec. 22, in the unlikely setting of the Smoky Row Coffee Shop (http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/12/23/voter-asks-obama-about-muslim-background/) in Oskaloosa, Iowa, as he munched on pumpkin pie and drank tea with four locals, Obama provided more detail took on this topic than before. When asked to explain his Muslim heritage (http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2007/12/22/531492.aspx), he replied:
"My father was from Kenya, and a lot of people in his village were Muslim. He didn't practice Islam. Truth is he wasn't very religious. He met my mother. My mother was a Christian from Kansas, and they married and then divorced. I was raised by my mother. So, I've always been a Christian. The only connection I've had to Islam is that my grandfather on my father's side came from that country. But I've never practiced Islam. … For a while, I lived in Indonesia because my mother was teaching there. And that's a Muslim country. And I went to school. But I didn't practice. But what I do think it does is it gives me insight into how these folks think, and part of how I think we can create a better relationship with the Middle East and that would help make us safer is if we can understand how they think about issues."
If his parents put Muslim on his school enrollment papers, let's say, that says zero about his beliefs and what he practiced. He clearly says his father was non religious, and we know he later became an athiest. his mother ascribed to no formal religion. obama says he never was muslim .
so the only leg you're standing on here is that you say it says "muslim" on a school paper?
where did he every verbally acknowledge any conversion from islam to christianity?

Madrasa does mean school in arabic. However in INDONESIA, which doesnt speak Arabic, does not call all their public schools MADRASAs.....they call their ISLAMIC SCHOOLS MADRASAS because you only learn the koran in its native language - arabic. So they call their islamic school's madrasas. Hence why the principal in the link i provided said it was not a madrassa. Understand?

This is why I was saying that a madrassa refers to a Muslim school - because as far as I've always found, in non-Arabic speaking, predominantly Muslim countries i.e. Pakistan, Afghanistan, Indonesia etc etc...it IS used to refer to Islamic schools., where religion is taught as well as the Arabic language.
BUT it is NOT, in ANY Islamic country used to refer solely to radical/extremist-breeding institutions, as madrassas were called by Fox & Friends retards. And that was the whole argument - however u wanna spin it the school he attended was NOT a religious school - and certainly not a radical one.

And the thing about the madrassa, and you know, let’s just be honest about this, in the last number of years, madrassas have been, we’ve learned a lot about them, financed by Saudis, they teach this Wahhabism which pretty much hates us. The big question is was that on the curriculum back then? Probably not, but it was a madrassa and the big question is whether or not any of these revelations about the fact that he was a Muslim — right now I understand he does go to the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, although not a regular parishioner — but raised as a Muslim, went to a madrassa
