its funny, ambien only really works for a couple of hours (if even that) then it just wears off and your stuck awake. Gotta take it maybe half hour to an hour b4 you go to bed. What I do now is, hit the gym, follow the diet throughout the day and just smoke at night as a reward....this way i dont feel as guilty in the morning as i used to lol. its all in your mind!!

None of these drugs are physically addictive, meaning there are not physical withdrawls when you stop taking them. That being said, most people in the medical field know that these are all Phychologically addictive. People start feeling like they need them to sleep and if they stop taking them, they don't sleep.

Ambien CR is the only one of the Hypnotics indicated for long term use.

Xanex on the other hand, is a Benzo and there have been cases of noted physical withdrawls after discontinuation of long time use. Be careful with this one...

You could try Chamomile tea but that will only relax you, it probably won't put you to sleep.

Have you tried Hypnosis? I've been told that it's worked on some insomniacs.


As for the side effects, the only time my wife ever experienced anything like you describe was on the CR. The Ambien IR knocked her out to the world and she stayed asleep until morning. Every now and then it would wear off around like 3am and then she was screwed. The biggest mistake one could make is to take another dose. Then you're screwed up for days.
