before or after u eat well, obviously, after u eat something
but what i really mean is: would i burn more calories off faster if i ate before or after?

DEEPER KEMICAL

you should eat a small snack before you go to fuel you. not a heavy meal, but a protein shake with some carbs in it.

apple is not enough. youll end up doing more damage than good if you keep that up. cardio takes fuel. if you dont fuel, youll die out.

yea, i figured that lol but what about my other question?
do u burn the food off (calories off) faster if u eat before or after? or both? lol

DEEPER KEMICAL

depending on what you eat and how vigorous the cardio, you're body will burn the food off immediately then work on the fat storage. i believe thats the hierarchy of fuel, someone can correct me if im wrong, but i think the body uses whats in the belly first, then once it runs out it drains the fat storage.

I believe you're correct. That's why they say that early morning cardio is best for weight loss b/c the belly has no food in it & you're burning the fat stores for fuel :rope

DEEPER KEMICAL

would that negate my theory then? With that kind of thought process, one would be led to believe cardio on empty stomach is best, no?

a shake is ok, but not a full meal...

i've done spin class on an empty stomach, but not many people can handle vigorous cardio like that. it makes you nauseous & you tire out easily...

high intensity all depends on the level of fitness you have. some people, high intensity is DRIPPING sweat at 10 minutes, others its 20. all depends on the person.

i would highly recommend doing High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) as cardio. youll burn 2x as much calories and finish in 3/4 the time

Chach,

I'm gonna attempt to answer but I hope my response doesnt get lost in translation. If you eat first, your body is gonna burn off the food you just ate. For example, if you eat 100 calories before your workout, those calories are the first thing your body is burning to fuel your workout. After those 100 calories are gone, your body proceeds to utilize the fat stores for energy. After your workout, you should consume protein (doesnt have to be a shake) optimally within the first 45 minutes to help the muscles repair themselves & see results faster. Your resting metabolic rate is elevated after your workout, but you want to stick to something light & wait a while before eating an entire meal.

So my answer is this, eat the apple before you go work out. But have a little tuna or a half a grilled chicken breast when you get done working out to help feed your body & continue to burn.

My head is spinning from what I wrote. Let me know if it makes sense. I'll give you the diet I used, if you want but it's very boring. If you think of the food as fuel, you'll get through it. Just use alot of black pepper, hot sauce, spicy mustard, etc.:heart

i was doing an hour of cardio every morning for 8 weeks prior to show and always first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. my stomach could tolerate it but everyone is different. do what works best for you. i would eat something small like a energy bar thats low in sugar and calories. the whole point of the empty stomach is that your body has no other choice but to use the stored fat as energy to burn off those calories.

OH, and i can use peanut buttter for protein, right? (i dont like tuna/seafood lol)

I was gonna pm, but i'll post in case anyone else is interested....

Yes, peanut butter is a great source of protein. So are egg whites. You can buy them already separated if you don't want to do it yourself. Actually, that grocery list that Deeper posted a while back is a great resource to go by. Also, I advise you to get some Whey Protein Isolate. It is a must for me. This is what I was eating, because i find it easier to prepare my meals in advance & stick to the same foods. By all means, mix it up, but stick to the basic guidelines. I eat every 2 1/2 hours, but you can streach to 3 to 4. The basic idea is just to keep the insulin levels steady & the metabolism up. I can compare it to adding wood to keep a fire burning. SO here goes:

Breakfast
3 egg whites
1/2 cup or 1 envelope of plain oatmeal
a piece/ serving of fruit

(2 1/2 hrs)

protein shake- (mixed with water)

(2 1/2 hrs)

1/2 breast grilled chicken
1/2 cup brown rice

(2 1/2 hrs)

1/2 chicken breast grilled or beef
1 cup veggies

(2 1/2 hrs)

protein shake

From this point on, i would just drink a shake if I got hungry or eat a plain rice cake with some peanut butter. Try not to eat after 6 pm, only a shake if you get hungry.

Like I said, it might sound a little extreme, but everyone's different, so make it fit your body. Like if you find you're still hungry, add more veggies, etc. You get the idea. I've lost weight a few times in my life, & i found that I need a structured diet like this to keep me in line. & like I said before, feel free to swap out foods with things you like. If you don't like chicken, eat beef.

It's kind of hard at first, but trust me, it's worth it. :heart

why wouldnt it work for every1, u get out of bed swig some coffee walk out of your house walk for 20 minutes to start or run , u got a treadmill in the house even easier, if u have i medical condition then thats a different story likeif your diabetic this might cause an issue but if your fit and able it works, if u say u cant then thats your own problem and dont get me started lol

:heart

space your meals 2-2.5 hours apart from each other. the idea is, that you wanna keep your metabolism going as much as possible. you dont want to let it slow down. i eat my last meal which is 4 whole eggs and a 40g isopure shake and go to bed maybe an hour or two after. as long as your diet and cardio routine is in check, your good.

p.s. - make sure you drink PLENTY of water throughout the day (natural diuretic)

what i'am saying is, if you dont want to eat past a certain time. then control the timing of your meals (wake up earlier). everyone is different but the main point is, keep your metabolism going. never let it slow down. of course if you eat a large bowl of pasta before bed it will just store as fat. small portions is key.

The whole purpose of not eating after a certain time is because while you sleep, your metabolism slows down. If you get off work @ 9 & usually have dinner @ 9:30 but you don't go to bed until 1 or 2, it's fine. But for someone like me, I have to be in bed by 10 or I won't get up @4. All I eat before bed is a protein shake.

Yes, peanut butter is a great source of protein. So are egg whites. You can buy them already separated if you don't want to do it yourself. Actually, that grocery list that Deeper posted a while back is a great resource to go by. Also, I advise you to get some Whey Protein Isolate. It is a must for me. a good rule to stick by is stay away form carbs 3 hours before sleep...if you go to bed at 10 pm none after 7pm, if you goto bed at 2am none after 11pm etc....its a good idea to have some protein before bed though...that will keep your metabolism going for a period while you are sleeping...

if you dont eat after 6pm...wake up for breakfast at 7am, thats 13 hours with no food more than half a day which is no good..

this might have been answered in here already but thats my .02 anyway

Well during the last month of training, I was doing 2 days of weights & 2 hours of cardio 7 days a week. I kept my leg workout pretty basic- squats, walking lunges, deadlifts, calf raises, hamstring curls, leg extensions, abductors & adductors. I also was taking kickboxing, spin & dance classes in addition to my treadmill workouts. Upperbody workout i don't remember too well, but it's in my notebook.
