I'm a red guy so here are my recent favorites and the only way I know how to describe them is that I like real smooth wine's, easy to drink or sip and enjoy, easy to match with foods, and no bitterness, in order of my preference when reaching for a bottle:

1/Loredan Gasparini Capo Di Stato 1999 (http://www.jjbuckley.com/1997-Loredan-Gasparini-Capo-di-Stato-Proprietary-Blend/p~1997~8633~750) - This rare red wine is made from select Cabernet Sauvigon(65%), Cabernet Franc(20%), Merlot(10%) and Malbecah(5%). The vines are grown in the domain of count Loredan Gasparinin, situated in the idyllic Palladian area near Venice. The wine is aged in oak barriques, with further ageing in bottle. it has an intense, very classic blackcurrant Cabernet nose, and is rounded and full bodied with a complex concentration of flavour.(note: this isn't the exact link, I had to take the description of the bottle because I can't find this anymore, but anyone that can please let me know.)

2/Clos du Bois 2002 Marlstone (http://closdubois.com/wines/winesProduct.cfm?product_id=670&category_id=445) - With deep opaque ruby color and wild blackberry, clove, violets, and ripe plum aromas the sight and smell of this vintage of Marlstone promises great intensity and flavor. Complex, bright fleshy flavors of balanced fruit, cigar box, and roasted coffee deliver and lead to sweet, juicy tannins, and a long satisfying finish.

3/Foffani Refosco Dal Peduncolo Rosso 2001 (http://www.foffani.it/English/indexport.htm) - Year 2000 was our first year of production of Refosco, grown on our newly planted vineyards The colour is ruby red, with very little signs of ageing. The typical bouquet of blue berries and cherries is accompanies a medium structured body. As the acidity level is typically higher than with other high class red wines,. the right equilibrium of acidity and tannins is of paramount importance to make this wine pleasant. Refosco is an ideal and sophisticated companion of meals with "meaty" fishes, and accompanies well all meats with gravy. Also during a snack or alone is a refreshing, yet full bodied red wine drink.

4/Montevertine Le Pergole Torte 2003 (http://www.spiritshoppe.com/r/products/montevertine-le-pergole-torte-2003) - The 2003 Le Pergole Torte is an atypically rich, powerful version of this wine but the higher altitude of the vines, which extend to 550 meters, have helped preserve some freshness. It offers a compelling array of black cherry, licorice, mineral notes in a style that expresses the ripeness of the vintage yet is balanced by a classic sense of structure. Still very intense today, it will require a few years in bottle to settle down and may ultimately merit a higher score. “In 2003 we harvested our fruit on the 22nd of September rather than around the 10th of October, which is much more typical. I think it is a vintage that favors the later-ripening Sangiovese over earlier-maturing varietals like Merlot. I don’t expect that the 2003 Pergole Torte will be among the longest-lived vintages, but you never know. Sometime the wines that appear the least interesting when they are young offer the most development over time,” says Manetti.

5/Clos Du Bois Briarcrest Cabernet Sauvignon 2002 (http://closdubois.com/wines/winesProduct.cfm?product_id=657&category_id=443) - The 2002 Briarcrest casts a deep black ruby color and has scents of cassis, spicy oak, vanilla, and ripe black fruit. It has an intensely rich texture with a concentrated, fleshy mid palate of cassis, blackberry and spice. The fruit lingers elegantly to a soft, supple finish.

I've been thoroughly tasting/drinking reds the last few years, and these are some that I think everyone will enjoy, prices ranges usually around 40-50ish a bottle.

i honestly think that for at home table ines you really dont have to spend a dollar over 20 bucks to have a good quality wine.

its a wine from argentina that they were sampling at the liquor store and after trying it i liked the flavor so much i bought it. spent 12 bucks on it and really enjoyed it with dinner. i put the other two bottles i got aside in favor of this too.

we had it with steak and it tasted great

Mine too, but I get a lot of them for free because my stepfather has a wine warehouse in his garage. If you come out for CJ's thing I'll bring you a bottle because I got a 2 cases for Christmas.

MONTEVERTINE 2005 "PIAN DEL CIAMPOLO"

The pic says 2002 but the 2005 is the one I have...

Montevertine's Pian del Ciampolo bottling is made for earlier drinking. This is a delightfully lithe and light style of Sangiovese, with fresh red cherry fruit aromas, notes of red currants and anise. With its perfectly lively fruit, balanced out by earthy tannins, this is what Sangiovese should always taste like.

A favorite that is always stocked in my dads wine cellar...drank a bottle of the 1994 gran reserva last night and it was deelish. Normally Riojas and the tempranillo grape are a bit too oaky for me, but this one has a nice balance.

The Montecillo is typical of Crianzas. Its color is bright garnet with an effusive bouquet of ripe berries and sweet oak. In the mouth there is lots of flavor – cherries, cranberries, and roasted peppers. The oak flavors are somewhat muted and it finishes with soft tannins that are almost musty. Nice layers of flavor and lots of wine for the money. Will go well with pizza, roasted meats, and grilled veggies.
