Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is warning fellow Republicans that conservatives may leave the GOP for a third party in 2012.

“If the Republicans can’t break out of being the right wing party of big government, then I think you would see a third party movement in 2012,” Gingrich said Wednesday during a speech at the College of the Ozarks in Kentucky, the local television KY3 reported.

Gingrich thrashed Republicans for allowing increased spending during the Bush administration and for not doing enough to block President Barack Obama’s early initiatives.

“Remember, everything Obama's doing, Bush started last year,” Gingrich said. “If you're going to talk about big spending, the mistakes of the Bush administration last year are fully as bad as the mistakes of Obama's first two, three months.”

The former speaker also attacked the Democratic president on the economic stimulus package and for what he called his “grotesque arrogance” to oust Rick Wagoner as the head of General Motors.

“During the period I was speaker, the U.S. government – for four years – total growth was 2 percent a year. Under Bush, it was 6.1 percent…This year, I think it will be 36 percent in one year,” Gingrich said. “It is just literally irrational.”

and Gingrich started 15 years earlier.

As much as I try to like him, I absolutely can't. He's no conservative, just a talker.

nah i saw your boys press conference today .. he should never ever speak without a prompter.. besides sticking the public with a 30 year deficit nationalizing auto companies and firing their bosses is just too much even for a moderate democrat .. besides id rather loose an election than a run another McCain .. lets see what those tea partys will be looking like on april 15th .. not good when thousands of people are protesting in the streets 90 days after taking office.. then again he increased spending by 36% .. well we will find out if tax and spend gonna work .. i doubt it will

I pray the pundits are wrong about afghanistan .. i pray its quick easy and we get bin laden .. i got a bad feeling were gonna get bogged down in a bloody insurgency .. hopefully he wont hesitate like bush did between 04-06
