So, I usually do my squats with 8 lb weights in each hand, and do arm extensions as I squat. Is there anything I can add to this besides the weights?

So is that really all I can add to the mix? I hold 10 lbs in each hand when I lunge, but leave my arms to the side. If I use maybe say, 5's, can I extend to the front without hurting my back?

forget about extending the arms when doing squats. it does nothing (generally speaking). My advice, grab a 10-15lb bar and put it on your back and squat it. IF you want shoulder work, just do some shoulder presses as well as a separate exercise.

since your not using that much weight id advise on going ass to ground ... much better for you ... at least come within 3-6"'s of the ground and it will work your muscles 100x better

If I'm understanding this correctly, when you're going into your upward motion your arms are out in front of you, so the weight is in front of you? I think that's taking away from the hamstring and glute aspects of the squat. I'd use the bar like DK said, or at least keep the dumbbells down at your sides.

i dont agree with this. full squats will always > box squats.

box squats are a good supplement to full squats. no box needed

(just reference, those arent pounds. those are kilos lol. so each red is 55lb, and blue is 45)


dont get me wrong, box squats are GREAT supplement to a full squat. they help teach posterior chain activation but should never be subbed for the full thing

love these... but do them after u fire up ur abs with some crunches or such.
i find it gives an easier balance effect.

100 jump squats this morning along with 100 lunges, repeat. Next time I do legs is Saturday, so I am going to try the smith machine like xtc hewa said. :heart

esp when i feel very heavy and fat or bloated, or when i feel like death or sometimes when i feel a sick pump, makes you want to jump anyway lollllllllllllll basically, try to do them often as i can

this is a whole another topic/forum. isolation is fine. machines arent, imo. smith machine is the worst thing to happen to the world of exercise. locking you into 1 plane of motion, no thanks.

i still think its great for that excersise i mentioned to her

there is no way you can focus on the ass that much unless you're sliding up and down a wall, which would be hard to do w weights on your shoulders

i work out for looks so we're on a diff page lollllll

i do squats when i try to focus more on my quads


on my ass day i usually do barbell lunges , plie squats and smith machine squats if i get the machine free or have the strenth left in me


trust me babe, we squat decent weight lollllll (at least i think it is!! lol) , 50's on each side for reps lolll

I want to try this other thing that have at the gym that looks like a sex swing without the swing. You put your feet into 2 straps and run in place while in plank position, or whatever other excercise you can do. I'm afraid I'm going to bust my ass though.

I :heart squats. I used to fuckin HATE them when I worked with the trainer and was SUCH a slacker, but now I love them. Not to mention the transformation of my ass from them.

There was a girl I went to college with who ran track and she used to squat 135lbs for a solid 4 or 5 reps. She wasn't huge or really built, but had nicely developed legs. I always gave her respect for that.

My form has been the suck since i hurt my knee so i laid off the squats for a while. Just started doing back squats & i love them. i just used the bar to get my form. might add weight to the bar tonight

too bad my weight room these fukers do squat, and HEAVY, so you dont meess with them, i try to get in my squats and lunges at lunch time bc of this, and now they redid my whole weightroom so now we have only ONE SQUAT RACK!!! (:pullhair!!)

but my gym we dont have much women in general working out in weightroom... so...

I tried doing a front squat like this and sorry but maybe my arms are too long or something because I cannot bend my wrists back that far AND the bar is right up on your throat. Pretty dangerous.

its not dangerous. you just lack flexibility. hundreds of thousands of people do this every day and train with serious weights. its NOT dangerous. learn the movement properly or just dont do it, but you shouldnt label it as dangerous.

heres a great video on it. he even states its an uncomfortable movement.

my .02 for a chick .... if ur not squatting with a the bar or smith machine....take a dumb bell and grab one end, put it in between your legs and squat.

On a another note, I love doing squats on the squat rack while someone else is doin squats on a smith machine.

Maybe they're called squat extensions...2 freeweights shoulder level... Squat then extend ur arms up over ur head when u come up. And back down when u squat.

its good :) the rain last month screwed me up bc its all outside but its picking back up again now. thank you for asking :)
