NYPD salaries are nothing compared to the pigs out here in north NJ. Just take a look at the town lists. The highest salaries are commanded in the towns with the least crime rates. Mind boggling..... If this was private sector run it would be the exact opposite.


In all seriousness, as a taxpayer, I have no problem with cops in high crime rate areas, such as Paterson/Newark for NJ, or these days, the spanish only speaking nation aka the 5 boroughs to command a very decent salary. The shit and risks they have to deal with on a daily basis - they deserve it.

What I really got a problem with is the clowns that are on the PUBLIC dime making $150k+ a year in a town with an absurdly low crime rate (like my town in N. NJ) whose main job is to run speed traps all day long, respond to false home alarms, supervise a worksite, etc, etc.. There are RARELY any dangers. I tell you, seriously no joke, they all fit the "cop" stereotype out here - typical clown in high school who got abused, on a high horse since they got the badge, uneducated, a real deal pussy who would not last a day if you put them in the streets. I never really believed that until I moved up here and confirmed it with my sig. other who grew up and went to school with all of them haha.

I like that our new and round governor is taking on the public sector, but I hope he stops his vendetta towards teachers (who I feel deserve fair compensation) and start shaking up the overpaid and below average police forces in these towns.

I think it's one of the only reasons we have enough cops in our city. Not that I want to do it anyway, but without that pension who the fuck wants to risk their lives for shit pay day in and day out?

i think we should not nit pick this and count pennies with our safety, I mean we already have problems with crime rsiing and most of this is related to the starting salaries of cops, a few yrs ago it was at like 28k thats just absurd

i am hearing now that they moved it back up to 35k, which is not really a fine lviing in NYC. so they still struggling. but having that incentive of retirement after 20yr and half salary is what drives many of them to stay with it or sign up in the first place,

we need to cap the city's settlements from all these bullshit lawsuits from everything from slip and falls to police brutalty and so much other wastefull spending before we deter more people from becoming cops and protecting us

no matter what people will say about cops, we need them, there are the bad apples, but there are so many god ones who are paid peanuts to deal with the scurge of this city

someone who picks up garbage ( not knockin the profession at all, its actually one of the best city jobs) makes a hell of alot more then someone who is potentially in life threatening situations daily.

you are correct, but that doesn't make it right. States will never balance their budgets long-term until they unions are all gone and everyone in civil service has to contribute to their own 401k and pay a fair portion of their health benefits just like every job in the private sector.
