i put too much weight on this squat machine yesterday and feel right to the ground. of course there was some bang ass fucking chick right there, and i had no headphones on. but it was my first time on that machine, and i was only doing it because people were on the machines i wanted to get on.

i feel it in my thighs mostly also...i never feel it in my ass competely.

make sure you squat down to 90 degrees and hold it for a secone before you come up (with the ball against the wall)

i dont like the machine for squats..i thik the ball is soooo much better.

do the squat machine that you lay on your back and push against the plate and slide upwards against the weight. that will keep ur back flat and concentrate on ur legs

ur prob going too far down, try controlling the weight and lowering very slowly, stop sooner than you have been and then raise back up

the lower you go the more ur back rounds out...

I would have to say your not going deep enough if you dont feel it in your glutes. Now, I dont mean to have your ass touch the floor (althought I have seen it done) but you got to go to 90 deg or even a little bit more IMO. I would say work with the ball on the wall and you can even hold a weight out in front of you if you want to add some weight with perfect form.

You can also try working on the smith machine (the machine that has the bar attatched to it and is in a cage) to try and isolate the muscles more with out having to bring in all your stabalizer muscles and what not.

But if your really trying to hit your glutes I would say do lunges instead of squats. And do them in the smith machine first. Make sure your form is good on them too.

And you should also really try and push from your mid part of your foot back to your heels rather then off the top of your toe when you do squats or lunges.

What I do is I try to picture my spine going straight down into the ground.. like you're using your ass to hammer a nail into the ground.. ok that does sound a little twisted but by picturing the motion I seem to get it right all the time lol

whenever i do anything that i have to keep my back str8
mostley in grappling, ill psuh my groin fwd it helps u keep ur back straight, or u can look up as u do it, like try to look over ur head
focus on a spot on the wall or ceiling as u do squats

use the machine thats all i can say

u can push ur feet out further and honestly i feel less stress on my back when doing it that way because im really not using my back to support the weight

You can also try and keep your chest up and looking at a focal point(like kevin said) would def help too.

And I think squats are more of a mass building excersise for your legs (mostly quads and hamstrings IMO) not so much your glutes.

Stick to doing lunges (light weight at hi reps 15) and use the glute machine, if your looking to work your glutes.

kid is right as far as lunges really targeting your glutes more so than squats, but squats are the best overall lower body movement you can do. but keep in mind, they put a good deal of stress on ur spine.

if you're having trouble maitaining a straight back, try strengthening ur core some more. work on getting your abs and lower back stronger which will help you stabilize. for lower back, you can try good mornings, deadlifts, etc.
