Restaurants that didn't live up to the Hype

Ok well we've all ready a 1000 reviews about this meal, this view, the service, the decor, etc........that was so excellent, so what are restaurants in the area that you weren't impressed with, the food sucked, it didn't live upto the hype or the $$, for the rest of us to avoid. Let the bashing begin.

There are soooo many, I have the worst memory but I will post them as I remember them..

One that specifically stands out is
Cafeteria - everyone made SUCH a big deal out of this place...erf. Service sucks balls and the food is mediocre at best. Only thing that is actually cool is the scene. Not impressed, never was even the first time I hit it up in 1995 lol.

L&B Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn - ummm the pizza sucks. Sauce is watery. I was dissapointed.

Sushi Lounge - in Hoboken. Gave it three chances because there is so much hype - place is crazy cool, drinks are great but the sushi is NOT "all that".

i agree about sushi lounge, that place has some of the worst sushi around. its more of a cool hangout, bar kinda place....as a restaurant, its BOOTY

butter - food was eh, we were greeted by a bunch of giggling nimkapoot hostesses and just blah, however, i was there some time ago for a downstairs party Andy threw and had fun, but not because of the place at all

ralph's ices - yeah theyre ok, but way too much hoopla, no matter what, when it comes to ice cream real gelato is the shit

one if by land two durrrs if by whateva - ok, this one is out of sheer ignorance, but i dont know, i refuse to go based on its hype, when it comes to romance im a firm believer in finding the coziest lil place when its empty and you really feel like youre all alone

il mulino...too crowded and the food isn't as great as people say it is

mesa grill, barfffff, never again and i've tried it 3 times

rosa mexicano, i'm not saying it's bad but it's not as good as everyone says it is...i prefer dos caminos to it

One restaurant that GRAVELY disappointed me was the Serafinas on Lafayette :upset Service was absolutely disturbing.. I'm still traumatized :chatterin The food was not as good as i woulda expected, nothing beyond typical Italian cuisine that even i coulda made at home.. The decor was fab however and i loved the ambiance... i have heard good things about some of the other locations so i would definitely go back, but i dont think i'd go back to this one b/c of the ill feelings associated with my experience... such as having to wait 20 mins for a menu and even when we got menus it was one betw 4 people and we couldn't even read it b/c it was so dark on there (which is usually a good thing but not when u have to hold a candle up to ONE menu betw 4 to read it :disgusted)

BUTTER.

nice decor and that's about it. portions are ridiculously small. service was ok but don't expect to leave quickly if anybody famous comes in. After we got our appetizers a bunch of models came in and we were bumped to the bottome of the list. took us another hour and a half to finally leave and on top of that 20% gratuity is automaticaly added onto the bill. Is this something new? I thought grautity is based on your experience with the meal and service. Why does that person authomatically get 20%?

Went there for my brother's birthday. food was bland and overpriced and the service was ON TOP OF YOU. We barely put down our fork when they took away our plates and literally started cleaning the table before we even ordered dessert.

I've actually had the best times in little cafes.

Please refrain from saying that L&B sucks :) That is how they make a sicilian in sicily....the pizza is old school...dont hate on it.

i guess b/c Butter is more of a drink/loungey place? I would like to have dinner there just for the ambiance but i wouldnt expect much of the food or service.. Having drinks there though is a divine experience...

I think Butter had great drinks and appetizers...the entrees were nothing special. I would definitely go back but NOT for dinner, just a casual meeting. :clinkbeer


L&B used to be A LOT better...recently the pizza is different. But still good.


I would have to put MR. CHOW in this category. I have heard so many good things about it. When Darel and I went there for his birthday we just felt very uncomforatble. The set up sucks. The food ain't all that. We didn't even get menus...they just made us pick what kind of meat we wanted for what course and how we wanted it...(ex: sweet, spicy etc.) And I'm very picky with my food so that didn't work out too well. Also it was expensive. I guess if you're not a celebrity Mr. Chow don't give a shit about you. I don't recommend it. :snobbish

I also expected more out of Asia De Cuba especially for the $$$, the appetizer was amazing, and the place looks Miami, but between the entrees and the whole family style eating thing is not for me. I also thought Ruth Chris didn't live up to the hype. I've had better steaks for alot cheaper at Arthurs.
