I find it irresponsible, misleading, and reducible to a marketing strategy.

    How so?
The Commander in cheif aboard a aircraft carrier addressing the brave men and woman that defended this country in the time of war. It was supposed to be a pat on the back for our countries servicemen I didn't see anything wrong with it. Some see it as a photo-op I don't it made me proud.

i agree that it was a little dramatic, but that was the intention of it, it made you proud to be an american, i loved when he shook every single man on the decks hand...the man is a class act and a great leader...

i agree, he did milk it for all it was worth but it was a great act and a moral booster for the whole country.

Looking beyond the inappropriateness of the civilian Commander-in-chief in military uniform and the orchestrations around the event to get the shot "just right" delaying the arrival of the troops to their families, the quote in light of what's currently happening in Iraq now seems careless in it's treatment of war. The gravity of what it means to go to war seems absent which to me is disturbing.

The troops did a fantastic job and that should be very much applauded. I cannot the deny the strength of the boost those soldiers got from his presentation and I understand how it could be a morale booster for the land at large, but to me it comes at the cost of clarity, honesty, and a realistic appreciation of what the situation really is over there.

    An article to consider.

    MsRay,
I understand where you are coming from but the situation isn't as bad as the media (especially foreign) is portraying it. When the administaration called an end to military operations there was a warning that attacks from Sadam's loyalists are expected.
Iraq has 25 million people and the attacks are coming mainly from the Sunni triangle see Sadam was a sunni and this is the ethnic group in Iraq that lost the most with the toppling oif the regime. Now even one life lost is too much and I greive for their parents but I can't stand the negative light this rebuilding effort is being shined upon to the American public this isn't Vietnam were not there for 10 years losing thousands of guys. The country fell 120 days ago and people arer complaining there aren't elections yet huh? How long does it take to have elections here? I read a good article from Amir Taheri who says that 90-95% embrace our presence and their new found freedoms.
